The Center for Addiction Studies and Research
The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse Services approved distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning courses are approved for Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I, II, III) certification and continuing education requirements.
Educational Requirements
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC I)
Master’s or doctoral degree in behavioral sciences.
Documentation of 270 hours of approved substance abuse specific education.
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.
Of the 270 hours:
- 110 hours must be related to knowledge of alcoholism and drug abuse
- 75 hours must be related to alcohol/drug abuse counseling, assessment, clinical evaluation, treatment planning and case management
- 75 hours must be related to patient/family/community education, cultural competency, and/or other co-existing issues
- 10 hours must be related to professional and ethical responsibilities
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (LADC II)
Documentation of 270 hours of approved substance abuse specific education.
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.
Of the 270 hours:
- 110 hours must be related to knowledge of alcoholism and drug abuse
- 75 hours must be related to alcohol/drug abuse counseling, assessment, clinical evaluation, treatment planning and case management
- 75 hours must be related to patient/family/community education, cultural competency, and/or other co-existing issues
- 10 hours must be related to professional and ethical responsibilities
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor III (LADC III)
High school diploma or equivalent.
Documentation of 50 hours of approved substance abuse specific education including 10 hours of education in each of the following five subject areas:
- Assessment
- Counseling
- Case Management
- Client/Family/Community Education
- Professional Responsibility
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education
Continuing Education Requirements (LADC I, II, III)
Documentation of 40 hours of continuing education every two years.
